So lately I have been craving sweet bad, also we have had so much smoke this year that I started coughing, then the coughing got constant keeping me awake at night and just flat out wearing me out. Confirming with the doctor that it was indeed smoke induced asthma I decided to start having an afternoon smoothie to help boost my mind and body for my afternoon lessons.
Of course there are so many variations when making a smoothie but I have discovered that when adding greens to anything you would not usually find them in chocolate disguises them very well both the taste and the color!
So my current afternoon smoothie has consisted of:
1 banana
a few strawberries or any other fruit of your choosing
about a cup of vanilla soy milk or any milk of your choosing
1 tsp honey or a small squirt
2-3 tbs cocoa powder
a very generous handful of greens - I have been using chard because I have an abundance of it in my garden but spinach and kale would also work or ????
and a handful of ice cubes
dump this all in a blender and puree until completely smooth then enjoy!
Twists- you could add some plain yogurt to thicken it or substitute some or all of the soy milk for juice.
You can also change up the soy milk- Coconut milk makes a fantastic fruit smoothie and I recently discovered a coffee flavored soy milk so I will play with that or you could just splash some coffee in it!
